Map&Rank uses big data and machine learning to deliver climate risk information and facilitate disaster preparedness in vulnerable communities.

Results to date: The pilot areas were identified, and data on floods and droughts was collected in three hazard-prone divisions of Cameroon. Drone flights and on-site research were conducted to map and develop the initial version of the geospatial web platform for visualizing the analyzed data. The prototype consists of 11 interactive dashboards and was tested with local authorities. Additionally, as part of the field research, the company created games to actively involve communities and improve their collective understanding of climate risks and early warning alerts.

Workplan: During the investment period the minimum viable prototype will be finalized to conduct a complete testing of the pilot. Activities to validate readiness to pilot with communities include further development of the mobile app, secure the data and validate who are the potential partners for the deployment of the solution in Cameroon.

Investment rationale: Map&Rank are in the early stages of developing its solution, and the resulting Open Source IP has the potential to support UNICEF priorities, for emergency response and community engagement. The underlying frontier technology could also be used for alternate programmatic purposes.
