Renovus develops SolarRec, an AI-powered platform connecting solar generators to create carbon offsets and finance additional solar panel installations in remote areas. 

Results to date: The initial prototype is fully functional and has been tested in Uruguay, where small solar generators were connected to calculate under performances and the tons of CO2 emissions that were avoided by the generators. The prototype includes intuitive graphics for the final users to understand the data generated.

Workplan: During the investment period, the company will develop and test the AI component of SolaREC to scale the platform and connect numerous solar generators in Latin America. It would ensure precise energy measurement, timely issue detection, and the potential issuance of carbon offsets. By the end of the period, SolarRec is expected to have 250 new installations connected to the energy grids of other countries beyond Uruguay.

Investment rationale: Solarisation of schools and health facilities powered with clean energy production are key priorities for UNICEF. A locally developed Open Source solution for the detection of solar panel malfunctioning could provide learnings as we build the UNICEF solarisation programme.
