U-report, launched in March 2016 in Burkina Faso with the Ministry of Youth, has strengthened young Burkinabé’s participation in themes such as empowering girls and women to cope with harmful traditional practices, improve key familial practices, safe pregnancy, and good maternal and newborn health. For example, real-time data indicates that school pupils would not take a HIV test at school even if the service was provided. This points towards the need of further adapting services (health, social participation) to youth and adolescent needs. Another poll on female genital mutilation indicates that social norms are present among young people and some of the youth are willing to perpetuate that practice. This has helped UNICEF and partners to pinpoint areas in which sensitization efforts are needed. The real-time data visualized here shows the growth in number of users of U-Report Burkina Faso over time.
